Swimming Pool
A fruity-sweet cocktail with a bold color – this is how you can describe the Swimming Pool best. Its turquoise-blue color reminds you of the south sea, the fruity taste of orange, pineapple and coconut of a vacation in tropical countries. Contrary to many other cocktails, that are from the United States or South America, the Swimming Pool is a European creation. It was invented by Charles Schumann in Germany. The barkeeper, who still runs the Schumann’s Bar in Munich at the Odeonsplatz, created the colada-cocktail in the late 1970’s. Therefore, comparing with the world famous Piña Colada, he replaced part of the Rum with Vodka. By adding the Blue Curaçao orange liquor, the drink gets its characterizing color, which is similar to that of a real Swimming Pool. To this stunning color, the cocktail now owes his name.
Charles Schumann invents the Swimming Pool 1979
The Swimming Pool is known as the modern version of the Piña Colada, to whom he is closely related. Although the drink didn’t make it on the list of the official cocktails of the International Bartender’s Association yet, it is still very popular and beloved. According to the original recipe by Charles Schumann from 1979, a Swimming Pool consists of 2 cl of sweet cream, 2 cl of cream of coconut, 6 cl of pineapple juice, 2 cl of white rum and 1 cl of Blue Curaçao. All ingredients, without the Blue Curaçao, are shaken on crushed ice and sieved into a big glass. Afterwards you let the orange liquor glide over the drink. The Swimming Pool is usually garnished with a slice of pineapple and a cocktail cherry.
Holiday flair with the SHATLER’s Swimming Pool
The SHATLER’s Swimming Pool is very close to the original recipe and is a tempting, sweet and fruity combination of vodka, rum, orange and pineapple with a soft coconut-curaçao-aroma. Enjoy the fruity taste, close your eyes and dive into a gentle holiday flair.
Our tip
To heighten the holiday sensation, put a little sugar on a flat plate, wet the rim of the glass with a bit of lime or lemon juice and dip it into the sugar afterwards. Add a slice of pineapple to the sugarcoated rim – done! We hope you enjoy your holiday!
Or try the South Sea feeling with a shot of creamy temptation: Treat yourself or your friends to the extra-cocktail-pleasure and mix the turquoise-blue temptation with 2 cl of cream. This dream of a cocktail takes you to a Caribbean beach as soon as you close your eyes.
